One of the Aughts’ most unexpected supergroups, Audioslave brought Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell together with three members of Rage Against the Machine. The two sides linked up at the suggestion of super-producer Rick Rubin, and proceeded to make a transcendent rock and roll connection. Their 2002 self-titled debut does what it says on the tin, first single “Cochise” arriving as a symbiotic fusion of Rage’s defiantly groovy rhythms and one of grunge’s biggest voices, yet the triple-platinum-certified album also spread Audioslave’s wings through soaring anthems and iridescent jams.
