Weightless lives up to its title. The second full-length from Animals as Leaders, the instrumental djent trio helmed by the wizardly shredder Tosin Abasi, balances out the Meshuggah-like chugs of their first effort with serene jazz latticework and glassy production that's even more transfixing and elegant. There’s still plenty of metal in this version of Animals as Leaders, but the band’s sterling musicianship is given proper room to sprawl out and prosper in the advanced arrangements. It’s truly gorgeous stuff.
