Description
Alexisonfire collectively likened themselves to a soft, worn-in sweater on their self-titled debut, but there’s nevertheless a hard-barbed heaviness puncturing the Canadian post-hardcore group’s first full-length. For all the sweetness found in Dallas Green’s clean-sung contributions — which only increased from here — it’s a record that thrives off the chaotic dynamic between him and perma-scream vocalist George Petitt, while also juxtaposing incendiary noise-fractured metalcore with emo-adjacent melody-making.
Alexisonfire's self-titled debut album is pressed on special Black/White Marble vinyl limited to only 500 copies, and comes with the BrooklynVegan special 80-page magazine with album matched die-cut cover.
The 80-page magazine, written by BrooklynVegan editor Andrew Sacher, features a die cut cover with a color-matched AOF Heart Skull logo printed on vellum, and tells the career-spanning story of Alexisonfire, from their formation to their swift rise in popularity to their breakup to their reunion, with deep dives into every album from their 2002 self-titled debut through their 2022 comeback album Otherness. It features new, exclusive interviews with all five band members (George Pettit, Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele, and Jordan Hastings), as well as members of Hot Water Music, Fucked Up, Rise Against, Moneen, Boys Night Out, Sum 41, Billy Talent, and more.
Alexisonfire’s 2002 self-titled debut set the template for what so many post-hardcore bands would do in the coming decade. With dueling vocalists — high-pitched screamer George Pettit and clean singer Dallas Green — the Canadian band were able to hitch their skronky verses and VFW hall-ready breakdowns with swooning choruses that united My Chemical Romance fans with Hatebreed moshers. Highlights like“.44 Caliber Love Letter” and “Pulmonary Archery” remain staples of this period, and the dynamic cover art was made for vinyl.
All five AOF studio albums are also available in a limited-to-1000 box set (with different color vinyl, a live album, a print, magazine & more) and individually (on black/white marble vinyl, limited to 500 copies each, and bundled with the version of the magazine whose cover art matches the album it's packaged with).
