Oscar-and-Emmy-nominated actress Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring, The Departed) and her new rock band, the Yagas, have been working their way towards a full-length album release, which arrives later this month. Ahead of time, they’ve teamed with Revolver to premiere the striking new music video for guitar-blaring, grief-stricken single “Life of a Widow.”
“Life of a Widow” follows the anti-child trafficking-themed “She’s Walking Down” and the group’s debut single “The Crying Room,” with this latest tune being described by the band as an “explosive yet luminous portrait of anticipatory grief.”
Aesthetically, the Yagas conjure this though synth-pulsating melodicism, propulsive and dancy beatwork, and Farmiga’s plaintive croons and howls about being help captive by one’s memories.
“The song is aching to feel the presence of a deceased loved one,” she tells Revolver. “It’s a soul’s journey of yearning, pleading to crack the unbearable silence of solitude, that Vantablack void, just to hear your love’s voice once again, to feel your love’s touch again.”
Farmiga continues: “The protagonist in our song wanders through her misery, she navigates through mad midnight moments of throbbing despair. She begs to feel less alone. She demands to feel the presence of her lost love. And she won’t stop wailing until he’s there. It’s about taking those sudden, violent jabs of red-hot grief, feeling pummeled and clobbered by desperation and crying out to the dearly departed for help and reconnection.”

The Yagas’ Midnight Minuet is due out April 25th. The 10-song collection — which includes all three aforementioned song — was mixed by Grammy nominee Brian Virtue (Deftones, 30 Seconds to Mars) and mastered by Grammy winner Emily Lazar (Beck, Coldplay).
