After languishing in production hell for a number of years, Life of Agony bassist, horror coloring-book author and horror comic scribe Alan Robert is ready to bring his chilling Crawl to Me mini-series to movie fans. With a screenplay now in place, he’s treating fans to an early scare via a nightmare-fueled concept trailer full of blood, fire and “raw terror.”
An animated trailer hits beats from the original award-winning comic series, which was first published by IDW in 2011. A press release notes that the CG-assisted sizzle reel of “unsettling imagery and dread-soaked atmosphere” was directed and animated by executive producer Chris White, while the screenplay was drafted up by T.J. Cimfel and David K. White, the writing duo behind Netflix’s thriller Don’t Move.
As you can see up above, the animated hellscape features tense police standoffs, supernatural weirdness, flame-engulfed big bad Edgar, and a shit-ton of rats. After having the film rights passed between various companies over the years, Robert is stoked to have his IP back with his own Wasted Talent Entertainment.
“These Crawl to Me characters have been haunting my brain for a long time, so to finally see Edgar come to life in all his evil glory is incredible,” he commented. “The way the screenwriters handled the script hits all the right emotions — Crawl to Me is as terrifying as it is disturbingly heartbreaking.”
“We were thrilled to write the script,” Cimfel and White added in a joint statement. “Alan’s graphic novel is such a ride — it’s alive and has heart and is absolutely terrifying. We can’t wait for people to see it on the big screen.”
You’ll find the adrenalized and eerie concept trailer up above. An official due date for the movie adaptation of Crawl to Me has yet to be detailed, but updates are expected soon.
As for Robert’s bass duties with Life of Agony, he and the rest of the band are due to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their sophomore LP, 1995’s Ugly, on an upcoming tour.
