Tom Morello is giving the people what they want: his next solo album. The Rage Against the Machine guitarist has announced an upcoming release called Everyone Gets Everything They Want, and it features guest spots from Serj Tankian, Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo and more.
Morello formally announced the LP today (July 28th), and it’s described in press materials as being the guitarist’s “first solo rock album”. The new release is said to further the fretboard icon’s penchant for mixing “high-octane rock with unwavering activism.”
For proof, he just delivered a new single called “Date Night,” which was inspired by the true story of three Dutch girls that “served as spies, saboteurs, and assassins against the Nazis during World War II.” It’s explained that sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen and their friend Hannie Schaft would seduce Nazi officers, lure them into the woods and kill them. Schaft would later be captured, tortured and killed by the Nazis, “but she never snitched on her comrades.”
“I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis,” Morello explains. “‘Date Night’ is really a ‘which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math. Oh, and Roman Morello wrote the killer riff in this tune.”
The 12-song Everyone Gets Everything They Want is out September 25th via Mom + Pop Music. The album features Morello’s previously issued “ADJOURN IT” single with his son Roman and System of a Down vocalist Serj Tankian, as well as last year’s “Everything Burns” single with Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo and his 2024 single “Soldier in the Army of Love.” Elsewhere on the LP, Morello gets a helping hand from Irish rap renegades Kneecap.
An exclusive pre-order for the album on “Red & Black Stripe”-colored vinyl (limited to 300 copies) is available now in Revolver’s shop, along with various other Morello solo releases and vinyl copes of albums from Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave.
As previously reported, Morello is also staging his “Power to the People” concert at Columbia, Maryland’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. The October 3rd day fest will feature performances from Morello, Tankian, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, the Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen, Killer Mike, Joan Baez and many more.
