Last year, cult Seattle post-hardcore band The Blood Brothers reunited for a series of live shows — marking the act’s first performances in a decade. They seemingly had a hell of a good time together, as three of its members have now announced a new band called Evil Island, and they’re currently recording music with iconic producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot, the Cure).
News of the band was officially delivered in an Instagram post today (October 11th), though vocalist Johnny Whitney was teasing the project over the weekend through a handful of IG stories of himself tracking vocals with Robinson — whom he’d first worked with when the Blood Brothers recorded 2003’s …Burn, Piano Island, Burn.
The new post confirms that Whitney is joined by fellow Brothers Cody Votolato (guitar) and Mark Gajadhar (drums), and they’ve rounded out the line-up with bassist Autry Fulbright (OFF!, And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead).
“I have some really exciting news to share: We have a new band,” Whitney said in the video, “I think you’re really going to like it a lot.” He then shared a snippet of a song from the recent recording sessions, revealing something not unlike the punked-and-sassed sound of the Bros.’ Crimes period.
Details on what Evil Island are building towards are unknown at this point, but Whitney shared that more will be revealed soon.
Of note, Votolato had previously reunited in the studio with Robinson in 2016 when hardcore supergroup Head Wound City — featuring members of the Blood Brothers, the Locust, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more — tracked their A New Wave of Violence album.
