SPEED announce new EP with heavy memorial anthem “PEACE”

Aussie hardcore dominators Speed have announced a new, three-song EP release titled ALL MY ANGELS, which is set to pay tribute to friends of the band that have passed away over the past year-and-a-half. To preview the forthcoming release, they’ve unleashed it’s rip-stomping “PEACE.”

A press release explains that the EP, which follows last year’s much vaunted  ONLY ONE MODE album, was produced, recorded and mixed by Elliott Gallart at Sydney, Australia’s The Chameleon Studio. The sessions reflect on grief and “the memories of those lost,” and are said to deliver the band’s “heaviest hitting material to date.”

“Three of our close friends passed away in 18 months — but, amidst this devastation I was overcome with a deep sense of clarity and peace,” vocalist Jem Siow said in a statement. “Because, despite the abyss of questions of why and how, my clearest sense of calm lay in the certainty that the time we shared and invested in one another was underpinned by unfiltered honesty and unconditional love.”

With “PEACE” in mind, the band initially lean into a double-timed hardcore arrangement of screeching guitars and give-no-fucks lyricism from Siow. It then pivots towards a dynamic, almost heavenly choir break, and then chugs into a jazz-swung backend.

The video mixes performance footage with a tranquil, if symbolically-loaded visual of a flying dove.

“Their lives were short, but I know our experiences together were lived with deep, meaningful intention, which has in turn empowered us with more meaning and purpose while we are still here,” Siow continued of “PEACE.” “This sense of calm and focus exists like a sharpened, refined weapon at my disposal – poised to attack life and its many hurdles with precision and intention.  And it has only been refined through the process of loss.”

ALL MY ANGELS sees release October 23rd via Flatspot Records and Last Ride Records. That’d be the cover art and tracklisting down below.

As previously reported, Speed will be joining Turnstile on the band’s upcoming North American tour, and you’ll find the date details here.

They’ll also be joining up with Malevolence and Dying Wish in late October for a European leg of dates, and the info on those shows can be found here.
