Third time’s a charm. Following a pair of previously unsuccessful bids, grunge legends Soundgarden are being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The official class of 2025 was revealed over the weekend during an episode of American Idol, with host Ryan Seacrest having confirmed that Soundgarden will be joining the Rock Hall alongside Bad Company, Thom Bell, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Nicky Hopkins, Carol Kaye, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Salt-N-Pepa, Lenny Waronker, the White Stripes, and Warren Zevon.
Unfortunately, this also means a few previously-revealed nominees did not make the cut this year and this includes: Billy Idol, the Black Crowes, Joy Division and New Order, Maná, Mariag Carery, Oasis, and jam band Phish.
As previously noted, Soundgarden were overlooked twice in the past, as they’d been nominated in 2020 and 2023. Despite this, founding drummer Matt Cameron is himself a Rock Hall alum, having been inducted as a member of Pearl Jam in 2017.
“Soundgarden ignited the grunge movement that radically changed rock & roll in the 1980s and 1990s,” the Rock Hall wrote on their site. “The band’s raw power came out of the Northwest and flew in the face of a disconnected world, giving fans what they had long desired: a voice and a sense of belonging. A unique combination of alternative, metal, and punk, Soundgarden’s compelling sound cemented their place in music history.”
The induction ceremony will be held November 8th at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California.
