Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have just unveiled their 2025 picks for potential inductees. While the institution isn’t usually geared towards heavy acts, at least grunge godhead Soundgarden have another shot at making it into the Rock Hall.
A list of 14 nominees was announced today (February 12th), and indeed, the Seattle trailblazers are once again in the running for the next class of Rock Hall inductees. This marks the third time the iconic band have been up for the honor, following noms in 2020 and 2023.
While Soundgarden were overlooked twice in the past, it should be noted that drummer Matt Cameron is already a Rock Hall alum, having been inducted as a member of Pearl Jam in 2017.
In addition to Soundgarden, the rest of this year’s Rock Hall candidates include: English rock supergroup Bad Company, Southern-rockers the Black Crowes, pop vocal powerhouse Mariah Carey, first wave rock twister Chubby Checker, mad dog belter Joe Cocker, rebel yeller Billy Idol, a double nom for the members of Joy Division and New Order, pop singer Cyndi Lauper, Mexican rockers Maná, Britpop titans Oasis, Southern hip-hop eclectics Outkast, jam band Phish and garage-rock duo the White Stripes.
Nominees are decided by a panel of more than 1,200 artists, music historians and industry figures. The Rock Hall is in part decided by a fan vote, and you can cast your ballot over here.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are expected to announce their Class of 2025 in April, and will likewise announce which of those artists will be performing at a future gala. The induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles next fall.
