After building a mystery throughout the fall, Snot finally revealed the identity of their new singer last night (January 17th) at their comeback show in Anaheim, California. The frontman in question is Andy Knapp, also of Ventura metal band Stronger Than Machines.
While the band spent the past few months both teasing and evading the big question, keeping things under wraps in interviews and on Instagram, Knapp walked out onstage with the rest of the band — guitarists Mikey Doling and Sonny Mayo, bassist John “Tumor” Fahnestock and drummer Jamie Miller — at Anaheim’s House of Blues to play a selection of Get Some favorites originally sung by late, great frontman Lynn Strait.
They also gave “Starlit Eyes” — a standout cut off the 2000 tribute album Strait Up, featuring vocals by System of a Down’s Serj Tankian — its live debut.
You’ll find fan-shot footage from the show, which was Livestreamed by the band over Instagram, up above and down below.
While the cat’s now out of the bag, Doling had confirmed in an interview last November that fans would not be seeing earlier replacement vocalists Tommy Vext or Carl Bensley onstage for these reunion dates.
Instead, the guitarist heard through a mutual friend of a vocalist — which we now know is Knapp — who was a massive fan of Strait’s vocals. An audition process ruled out a number of other singers, but the video they received of the Stronger Than Machines frontman belting Get Some material hit the spot with Snot.
“Singing like Lynn Strait is not easy, man,” Doling said last fall. “He absolutely fucking rocked it to the point where I had to sit down. I was so blown away. And so I immediately contacted Tumor, John Fahnestock, bass player for Snot. And Tumor, best guy in the world, but hates everything, right? I sent it to him, and he called me right away and was like, ‘Dude, holy shit, you found our guy.’”
Snot’s next show is tonight (January 18th) at San Diego, California’s Brick by Brick. The band also have a huge fest appearance coming up this May at Daytona Beach, Florida’s Welcome to Rockville.
