Back in June, System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian officially unveiled his new Seven Hours After Violet project — also featuring members of Left to Suffer, Winds of Plague and more — via the brutalizing cut “Paradise” and its tripped-out music video. Today (August 22nd), the band, which is also known by the acronym S.H.A.V., announced their self-titled debut album and unleashed a follow-up single, “Radiance.”
While “Paradise” introduced the group at their most pulverizingly heavy, “Radiance” showcases their more anthemic and shoegazing side, with lead vocalist Taylor Barber (Left to Suffer) and singer-guitarist Alejandro Aranda (Scarypoolparty, American Idol) sharing clean vocal lines over shimmering instrumentation.
“This album is the culmination of years of creative exploration,” Odadjian commented. “With Seven Hours After Violet I wanted to return to my roots in heavy music but also bring something entirely new to the table. ‘Radiance’ and its precursor, ‘Paradise’ are but a small glimpse of the intensity, musical diversity and emotion that run through this album. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it in full and to bring these songs to life on stage at our first live performance at Mayhem Fest.”
In addition to Odadjian, Barber and Aranda, S.H.A.V. comprises of guitarist Morgoth and drummer Josh Johnson, both of Winds of Plague.
