SHAVO’s SEVEN HOURS AFTER VIOLET debut depraved dance-metal song “Alive”

System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian is pushing himself into a vital new direction with his rising deathcore supergroup, Seven Hours After Violet. As the outfit get ready to drop their self-titled debut, though, they’ve now dished up a familiar-sounding, though still-slamming single called “Alive.”

Seven Hours After Violet’s latest single does somewhat dip into the furiously-pounded, four-on-the-floor feel of hard-swerved SOAD classics like “Deer Dance” or “Suite-Pee.” That seems only natural, given Odadjian’s participation.

But on another level, the low-tuned riffage of guitarist Morgoth and singer-guitarist Alejandro Aranda takes the track in a different direction, as does the different kind of duet going on between Aranda’s clean vocals and Left to Suffer frontman Taylor Baber’s big-time growl.

You can check out the dementedly melodic metal wrecker up above.

“‘Alive’ dives deep into the duality of pain and vitality, where suffering becomes a twisted reminder of existence,” Odadjian added in a statement. “It’s about the dark thrill of feeling alive through intense emotions, even when they blur the line between ecstasy and despair. A haunting space where agony and empowerment collide.”

As previously reported, Seven Hours After Violet unites Odadjian with Barber, Aranda, Morgoth, and drummer Josh Johnson (who also plays in Winds of Plague alongside the latter). The band debuted earlier in the year with their deathcore-damaged “Paradise,” and later delivered the more inkily melodic “Radiance.”

The band’s self-titled debut is out October 11th through Odadjian’s own 1336 Records, which is an imprint of Sumerian Records. The album is available for pre-order now in an array of collectible formats, including a Revolver-exclusive vinyl colorway, limited to 100 worldwide. Order yours at our shop.

Seven Hours After Violet are also profiled in the fall issue of Revolver, which you can order here.
