Metal fans and documentary bingers, prepare yourselves to stare Into the Void for a new, 8-part series of the same name, which is set to explore the genre’s many triumphs and tragedies via the histories of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Pantera, Death and more.
A new trailer for the upcoming Hulu/Disney+ program was unveiled today, which describes Into the Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal as “an 8-part powerhouse series” featuring interviews with the likes of Pantera’s Rex Brown and Philip Anselmo, Lamb of God’s Randall Blythe, Sharon Osborne and more. As you can see through the player above, the show will also mix in plenty of archival footage as well.
As Blythe suggests in the trailer, metal is “not for the faint-hearted,” and the series will explore the foundation of metal, as well as stories including the plane crash death of Randy Rhoads, Satanic Panic-era paranoia and the Judas Priest trials, the on-stage shooting death of Dimebag Darrell and more.
“You don’t know how ugly this business can be,” Osbourne at one point in the preview, later adding of the genre’s enduring appeal, “Music is something that doesn’t die, after we’ve gone it lives on.”
The series was created by Jason Eisner and Evan Husney — the visionaries behind wrestling docu-series Dark Side of the Ring — and it premieres on Hulu/Disney+ on September 22nd.
