Though Metallica’s impact on the world of music is undeniable, an upcoming documentary on the band and their fans called Metallica Saved My Life will reinforce this fact later this spring.
Metallica took to their website earlier this week to announce a round of U.S. and Canadian sneak peek screenings of Metallica Saved My Life, which is explained to be explore the band’s “world through the lives of fans who have supported each other through highs, lows, trials, and triumphs for over four decades.” Though the focus is on the fandom, Metallica note that they’re in the film “a little bit, too.”
Metallica Saved My Life was directed by filmmaker and onetime Bathory drummer Jonas Åkerlund (Lords of Chaos, Polar), who had previously teamed-up with ‘Tallica on a number of music video projects, including “Turn the Page,” “Whiskey In the Jar” and “ManUNkind.”
Up above, you’ll find a trailer for the film that has fans from across the globe describing how Metallica gave them “hope,” helped soundtrack tough times and gave them a sense of community. We also see Lars Ulrich telling the camera that “Metallica is a state of mind,” while James Hetfield and several others describe the “family” they’ve found through metal fandom.
Below, you’ll find a list of upcoming preview screenings for Metallica Saved My Life around the U.S. and Canada between April and June, which are all timed around the band’s upcoming run of M72 concert dates with support acts Suicidal Tendencies, Pantera, Ice Nine Kills and Limp Bizkit.
It’s added that Metallica Saved My Life is “not-quite-finished,” so it’s unclear when the completed film will receive a wider release. That said, it’s expected to arrive later in 2025.
