Jimmy Kimmel Live! has long been a late night television hub for heavy music, so it seemed like a natural fit for Spiritbox to make their U.S. television debut on the program. And indeed, that’s just what the djent-pop favorites did last night (July 7th) when they rammed through a beastly version of their Tsunami Sea single, “Soft Spine.”
Kimmel was off for the night, so the band were introduced to the audience by guest host, comedian and actor Anthony Anderson (Law & Order, Black-ish). The visuals flipped from full color to a greyscale haze once Spiritbox guitarist Mike Stringer started chunking into the tune’s noise-djented and harmonically pinged-out intro.
From there, the group ramp into a ruthlessly efficient and impressively destructive run-through of the towering Tsunami Sea cut, vocalist Courtney LaPlante clutching at her neck and wretching out harrowing screams above the band’s general fracas. Late in the game, Stringer wigs out with an effects-messed tapping solo.

Spiritbox’s next live performance is at Louisville, Kentucky’s Louder Than Life festival on September 19th. The band also just announced that they resume their Tsunami Sea tour cycle in November with a three-week stretch of U.S. shows alongside Periphery and Honey Revenge. Pre-sales for the latter go live today (July 8th), while general ticket sales are up by Friday (July 11th).
