Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland has gone all loopy for Metallica. In the lead up to an upcoming round of support dates on ‘Tallica’s M72 world tour, the nu-metal guitarist unveiled a reimagined version of classic Master of Puppets instrumental “Orion” on Instagram.
A short clip of Borland reworking the Eighties-era epic popped up on his personal IG feed over the weekend. He captioned that he was “[h]orsing around and loopidy loopin” at home that afternoon, and he accomplished this with a tiny combo amp, an effects board and a white Jackson offset guitar.
Borland takes the arrangement in a different direction, remodeling Cliff Burton’s gracefully swung O.G. bassline into a staccato low-string rhythm. He then takes the guitar melody into a more ambient, if spaghetti western-ish area.
While it’s a chill redux, we can’t help but wonder what it would’ve been like if Borland added his cello to the mix, Apocalyptica-style.

This is, of course, not the first Bizkit-related ‘Tallica tribute. Back in 2003, the Borland and the rest of the group gave it their all for a groovy, nu-metal revamp of Master of Puppets’ “Welcome Home (Sanitarium”) during a MTV Icon special.
As previously reported, Metallica’s latest round of M72 tour dates generally resume their “No Repeat Weekends” format, with Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies opening one of the nights, and Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills opening the other.
