It’s been a spooktacular day for Ghost fans. Following the recently uploaded “Mary on a Cross” animated sequence, pulled directly from the band’s RITE HERE RITE NOW feature film, Papa and the Ghouls have additionally started streaming a second cartoon clip, this time for the film’s psych-twangy closing theme, “The Future Is a Foreign Land.”
The animated sequel sticks to the wide-eyed cartoony aesthetic of the RITE HERE RITE NOW scene, and finds Papa Nihil, Ghost’s shag-haired late-Sixties frontman, crooning out a post-apocalyptic ballad. The song — which, according to Ghost lore, is a “newly uncovered 1969-era gem” — is ripe with allusions to 1984 authoritarianism, while sonically, its psychedelic folk-rock vibe aligns nicely with the new video’s retro aesthetic.
