Couldn’t say we saw this one coming, but tomorrow’s (July 26th) opening ceremonies for the Paris 2024 Olympics are apparently going to be heavy, with reports going out that French metal icons Gojira are due to perform at the global event.
Local paper Le Parisien (via Time Out) reported that the eco-conscious titans are set to perform an “original” collaboration with opera singer Marina Viotti, a French-Swiss mezzo-soprano powerhouse vocalist who has carved out a career singing Bizet’s Carmen, but has also spent plenty of time singing in the metal world for European acts including Soulmaker.
Orchestrated by stage director Thomas Jolly, and set to highlight a mix of local and international talent, the night will likewise feature Lady Gaga, popular French singer Aya Nakamura performing a classic Charles Aznavour composition, Canadian powerhouse Céline Dion doing an Édith Piaf number, a duet between pianist Sofiane Pamart and singer Juliette Armanet, Parisian rapper Rim’K, and more.
Neither Gojira nor Viotti have weighed in on their collaborative piece publicly, but it’s bound to be epic.
