Evanescence took a victory lap on their monumental 2025 by performing their anime-supporting “Afterlife” song at the Games Awards last night (December 11th).
The performance took place during last night’s ceremonies at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, and it found Amy Lee and the rest of the nu-rock icons leaning into the emotional highs and distorted press of their Devil May Cry track, which was released earlier in 2025 for Netflix’s adaptation of the game series.
The band hit the stage with a touch of fog and pyro, with Lee stalking the stage and opening up the “floodgates” with her powerful voice. You can check out her and the rest of Evanescence crushing the cut for the Games Awards audience up above.
Earlier this week, Evanescence also unveiled a new “Afterlife” remix for Spotify that was crafted by synthwave outfit Gunship.
They first teased the song over socials with a clip that incorporated a whispery set of lines from Lee (“Our deepest intentions cut through like a knife/Unspoken yet resounding/See you in the afterlife”), and presented an old-school arcade cabinet sporting Gunship’s name and a retro-modded logo (which kinda looks like it’s paying homage to Eighties action movie hub Canon Films, but we digress).
The revamp, as you can hear via the player down below, adds a ton of neon purple crystalline keyboard work into Evanescence’s original arrangement.
“We’ve been looking for an excuse to work with Gunship for too long, I couldn’t be more excited about this dark new version of ‘Afterlife,’” Lee expressed in a statement, adding that “being a part of the Devil May Cry series has been an honor and too much fun.”
