What once seemed unthinkable finally happened last week when the Cure released their much-anticipated, long-delayed Songs of a Lost World — their first album in 16 years. Fans of the band naturally celebrated worldwide, and this includes Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez, who’s marked the occasion by releasing a cover of the Cure’s iconic 1987 single “Just Like Heaven.”
Sanchez’ pass at the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me classic was released online today (November 4th), as part of the musician’s Claudio Covers series. He played it out on acoustic guitar, bringing out the tune’s signature descending riff sans effects. He also added synths, piano, and a beat he hammered into an old LinnDrum machine. Vocally, Sanchez delivers spin-dizzy harmonies that pay tribute to Robert Smith’s original delivery, while also adding that signature Coheed flair.
“This song was introduced to me by some friends as a cover done by Dinosaur Jr,” Sanchez explained. “They were skaters, so the reference to ‘tricks’ at the top of the song conjured up ideas of a smitten lover’s curiosity for executing kick-flips and rail slides.”
He added: “It’s a strange but powerful relationship to have with a song when your introduction is someone else’s interpretation of it. I think that’s why I chose ‘Just Like Heaven’ for this month’s cover.”

As previously reported, Coheed and Cambria recently previewed their next phase by unveiling the “Blind Side Sonny” single, which was explained to be “the first taste of the band’s next full body of work.”
Coheed and Cambria also announced that they’re setting sail for Mexico in 2025 on their SS Neverender Cruise.
