As the Wu-Tang Clan once wisely proclaimed, you need to protect your neck out there. That’s a bit of advice Chevelle co-founder Pete Loeffler should have heeded, considering how the alt-metal singer-guitarist has become the catch of the day in the new, ultra-bleak video for his band’s recent “Rabbit Hole (Cowards, Pt. 1)”.
As previously noted by Revolver, the song itself fixates on conspiracy theories, “effects-rooted guitar riffs and simply-stated yet gargantuanly stomping drums.” A black-and-white, marine-themed music video for the group’s first single in four years arrived this morning (May 14th), and it heads from the rabbit hole to a sudsy shoreline.
While we see Loeffler singing bits of the song, he mostly lays motionless on the beachline, up until another figure — played by Chevelle drummer and brother Sam Loeffler — strolls up with a fishing net. As you can see up above, the predator/prey narrative comes to a chilling conclusion.
“The sea was angry that day, my friends, for sometimes you cast your net and win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you just don’t get that happy ending,” the group wrote in a joint statement. “Either way enjoy the new ‘Rabbit Hole’ music video, friends!”
As previously reported, “Rabbit Hole (Cowards, Pt. 1)” is expected to pop up on Chevelle’s next full-length. While the details on the record have yet to arrive in full, the group are getting set to mount a headlining U.S. tour in August.
