Marking the triumph of the true king freak, Rob Zombie hit the stage for the first time in 2025 over the weekend at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio. The celebrated ghoul rocker’s first show in seven months hit the Midwest metal masses with a cross-section of motor-psycho hits that pulled from his solo catalogue, and more.
Zombie hit the main stage at Columbus’ Historic Crew Stadium on Friday night (May 9th) as direct support for headliners Metallica, and he brought the heat fast and heavy.
The rocker began the night with The Sinister Urge’s “Demon Speeding,” and proceed to rev through a 12-song set that highlighted early Hellbilly hits (“Living Dead Girl,” “Superbeast”) up through to songs from his most recent work, 2021’s The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy (“The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition)”).
The night likewise found the solo artist showcasing the 30th anniversary of White Zombie’s Astro-Creep era with performances of “More Human Than Human” and “Creature of the Wheel,” the latter of which Zombie hadn’t performed live since 2016. He also demon-warped his way through White Zombie’s “Thunder Kiss ’65” before capping the night with a fuel-injected “Dragula.”
