After teasing us with an “ImpetuoUs” motion-comic last week, Puscifer have now shared details behind the first print issue of their new Tales from the Pusciverse series.
As previously reported, the group revealed plans to dish an EC Comics-saluting comic series last week via the animated music video for goth-romping Normal Isn’t single “ImpetuoUs.” That vid found stylized drawings of vocalist Maynard James Keenan undertaking a podcast interview with phallically-named, situationally grim and vibrantly face-painted Pusciverse character Bellendia Black.
Now, it’s been confirmed that this talk is the focus of the first issue of Tales of the Pusciverse, which was written by Keenan, and features artwork by Marlin Shoop (Captain Action, G.I. Joe) and Andy Belanger (Kill Shakespeare, Friday the 13th). Lettering for the convo was done by Marvel Comics and Afterlife with Archie vet Jack Morelli.
“I remember how excited I was as an elementary school kid when Wolverine was first introduced in one of the Hulk issues. Called neighborhood dibs immediately (long before cosplay was a named thing),” Keenan explained in a statement, adding of his Tales’ meeting of the juggernauts, “Seeing Bellendia Black in print brings back all of those joyful school kid memories.”
“Puscifer’s leap into comics with Maynard Keenan isn’t merch or novelty – it’s an extension of their long-running conversation with the absurd,” Shoop added in his own statement. “The book hums with the same tension as the music: satire wrapped in menace, humor sharpened into philosophy. I’m glad I could be a part of that and bring it to their vision.”
Details on upcoming issues are forthcoming, but it’s added that Tales from the Pusciverse will focus on other Puscifer characters including Fanny Grey and the Synth Whisperer.
