Primus recently announced that their longtime drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander was leaving the band “effective immediately,” and now they’re taking open submissions for his replacement.
“Seeking a well-mannered, affable individual with original sensibility and aesthetic, possessing a desire to open new doors in the creative world,” the funk-metal weirdos wrote in an social media post. “Flashy chops are wonderful, but groove, pocket, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation is a must.”

Alexander said that he had lost his “passion for playing” and that Primus deserved “someone who wants to be there.”
Until Les Claypool and Co. find their new drummer, Primus at least have plans for a few of the dates on their schedule: Their New Year’s show will feature an “augmented version of Primus featuring members of Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade,” and for TOOL’s forthcoming Live in the Sand destination festival, they’ll be joined by TOOL’s Danny Carey. The alt-metal drum great has shared the stage with Primus numerous times over the years, including filling in for Alexander in 2014 while the latter was recovering from a heart-attack.
