Grind veterans Brujeria have sadly announced that vocalist and sample master Ciriaco “Pinche Peach” Quezada, known as the “unmasked face” of the extreme outfit, died yesterday (July 17th) from heart complications.
Quezada’s passing was confirmed today (July 18th) across Brujeria’s social media pages, where lead vocalist Juan Bruno paid tribute to his cousin, who had joined the group in 1992 ahead of adding backup vocals and samples to the generally bandana-masked outfit’s 1993 breakthrough debut, Matando Güeros.
“I never thought I would have to do something like this,” Bruno wrote. “This is not easy for me. So here I am with very heartbreaking news. This news hurts more than anything else I’ve ever announced here before…Pinche Peach of Brujeria passed away last night from serious heart complications.
“As a long term member of Brujeria he was the unmasked face of Brujeria! He was the “star” of all our song videos. Videos like ‘La Migra’ to ‘El Patron del Reventon’. The band and I will miss you dearly. We love you and loved working with you! You will not ever be forgotten!! He was my best friend, my bro, my bandmate, and my cousin.”
Quezada was a steady presence through Brujeria’s career, appearing on all of the band’s albums between Matando Güeros and last year’s Esto Es Brujeria. The band most recently toured Europe, closing out a month-long run with a performance at France’s Hellfest.
