A new documentary is set to explore Ozzy Osbourne’s current health struggles and battle with Parkinson’s, as well as the beloved metal singer’s journey towards hitting the stage for Black Sabbath’s final show this summer. Titled No Escape From Now, the doc is currently in production at Paramount+.
The project was confirmed today (February 25th) on Osbourne’s official Instagram account, with it being noted there that No Escape From Now has been in production since 2022, and is being directed by BAFTA-award winner Tania Alexander.
Filming began while Osbourne was recording his Patient Number 9 album, and will continue through to Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert, which is being held July 5th at Birmingham, UK’s Villa Park.
Described as “a deeply personal portrait of the rock legend’s harsh new realities,” it will likewise focus on the painful fall Osbourne suffered at his Los Angeles, California home in 2019, the Parkin 2 diagnosis he received that same year, and how music has helped him persevere.
While still in production, the doc will detail “how the singer’s world shuddered to a halt six years ago, forcing him to contemplate who he really is, confront his own mortality and question whether or not he can ever perform on stage for one last time.”
“The last six years have been full of some of the worst times I’ve been through. There’s been times when I thought my number was up,” Osbourne said in a statement. “But making music and making two albums saved me. I’d have gone nuts without music.”
He added: “My fans have supported me for so many years, and I really want to thank them and say a proper goodbye to them. That is what the Villa Park show is about.”
A launch date for the doc has yet to be confirmed.
As previously reported, the “Back to the Beginning” concert reunites Osbourne with his bandmates, though he’ll only be performing “little bits and pieces with them.” He’ll also be performing select songs from his solo catalogue.
The evening will likewise feature appearances from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, TOOL, Gojira, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Guns N’ Roses and a one-time supergroup including members of Korn, Ghost, GN’R, Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, Sleep Token and more.
