Friends, tourmates and heavy icons Melvins and Napalm Death are marching our way with a brand-new collaborative album.
A full-length collab entitled Savage Imperial Death March, named so after the bands’ 2016 and 2025 joint tours of the same name, is out this spring. A press release explains that the immersive recording experience took place at the Melvins’ studio in Los Angeles, California, and finds their guitarist-vocalist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover slamming through tracks with Napalm vocalist Barney Greenway, bassist Shane Embury and guitarist John Cooke.
“I have loved the Melvins forever and their outlook on music,” Embury noted in a statement. “A chance to make an album of eclectic musical madness with them was truly an honor and a whole lot of fun, which surely is the whole point! Let’s do another one soon.”
“Napalm Death are one of my favorite bands ever,” Osborne added. “It was an absolute pleasure and a dream come true to do this collaboration with them. We wrote songs together. I would write a riff and we would learn it and record it right there. They wrote stuff and we would learn it immediately as well. It was truly a 50/50 partnership.”
The first savage preview of the upcoming Death March is the jittery, doom-swinging “Tossing Coins into the Fountain of Fuck.” You can let that one — which is filled with Greenway-style growls and quixotic guitar passages — jingle around your dome via the player below.
Savage Imperial Death March sees release April 10th via Ipecac Recordings. An exclusive pre-order on “Neon Coral” vinyl (limited to 300 copies) is available now in Revolver’s shop, along with other key Melvins and Napalm Death releases.
In related news, Melvins are set to appear at the Las Vegas iteration of Sick New World in April, while Napalm Death launch a North American tour with Deadguy and Primitive Man in May.
