While Mudvayne are gearing up for their upcoming 25th anniversary tour behind landmark debut album L.D. 50, the nu-metal veterans have confirmed that new music is on the way, too — and it’ll be coming out through their new label home: Alchemy Records.
Alchemy Records head and concert promoter Danny Wimmer confirmed the signing on his Instagram account over the weekend, while he was out at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona, Florida (the fest is staged by his Danny Wimmer Presents). Mudvayne performed at the fest last night (May 18th).
The video post found him hangin’ on the fest grounds with Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray. Wimmer put the latter on the spot to weigh in on the arrival of his band’s next LP, which will be their first since their self-titled album from 2009. Gray was a little tongue-tied, but he confirmed: “It’s coming.”
Wimmer likewise captioned the post as such: “I have had a hard time getting him to announce and here it is… and it’s coming through my label ‘Alchemy’.” Wimmer co-runs Alchemy with Dino Paredes, a former vice president at American Recordings. Their roster also includes Staind and Chevelle.
While details are slim beyond that, Gray has expressed off and on over the past few years that the band had some “special” song ideas in the works — though he’s also said that they need to accumulate some timeless bangers before pushing send. As he put it to Minnesota radio station 93X last year: “I only wanna put out fucking great shit.”
As previously reported, Mudvayne’s “L.D. 50 25th Anniversary Tour” begins September 11th at Dubuque, Iowa’s Q Casino. The six-week trek will have them performing the 2000 album in full, and they’ll be joined on the road by Static-X and Vended.
