It’s finally here, and it’s a monster.
After signing to Alchemy Recordings earlier in the spring, ahead of launching their L.D. 50 anniversary tour, nu-metal mutants Mudvayne have crushed out their first new single in 16 years: “HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE.”
The song, teased earlier this month through blood-slicked socials posts, begins with Chad Gray delivering an ungodly scream, which quickly ushers in piercing metal riffs, thwacked-and-thwonky bass playing and concussive beatwork. Gray noted in a statement that, as its title implies, the song explores “the endless cycle of projecting our pain onto others.” He accordingly howls of human suffering atop the aggressive refrain.
“‘HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE’ has probably been around since the beginning of man,” Gray explained of the song’s origins. “Certainly longer than the phrase ever existed.”
“I think I wrote this song as a reminder to myself to break the cycle,” he continued. “We create our own suffering, our own hurt. It’s time for us to create self-love and let go of the pain. It was never ours to begin with.”
It’s as yet unclear whether “HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE” is a standalone single or an early taste of Mudvayne’s in-the-works sixth LP — which will mark their first album since their 2009 self-titled release. Nevertheless, a video post from Alchemy’s Danny Wimmer and Gray noted that the LP is indeed “coming.”

As previously reported, Mudvayne will be spending the fall celebrating the sounds of their famously brbr-denging debut album, 2000’s L.D. 50, on a 25th anniversary tour.
The trip begins September 11th at Dubuque, Iowa’s Q Casino and runs until an October 26th finale at Uncasville, Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena. “Evil Disco” makers Static-X and next-gen nu-metal act Vended will be along for the ride. You’ll find the full date details over here.
