Metallica frontman James Hetfield took the plunge over the weekend and proposed to his partner, Adriana Gillett, as the pair were swimming alongside a bunch of whale sharks.
‘Tallica’s official Instagram account posted a photo of Papa Het and Gillett celebrating the good news while all geared-out in flippers, masks and wetsuits underwater. Hetfield popped the question while holding up a sign with “Will you marry me?” scrawled on it. The caption to the post confirms that Gillett said yes, and she’s also flashing the hardware in the photo.
The locale is unclear, but Gillett wrote in a separate Instagram post that Hetfield surprised her with a birthday swim alongside whale sharks last Friday (March 13th), and that the coupe de grace was “the most unique, special, and romantic proposal a Pisces could ever imagine.”
“In a sea full of fish, we caught each other,” she added, along with a close-up photo of a wide-mouthed whale shark who apparently served as a witness to the occasion.
Back on land, Metallica will be kicking into the next European leg of “M72 World Tour” dates later this spring, which find them supported by Gojira, Pantera, Avatar and Knocked Loose.
And then in the fall, Metallica launch their residency at the immersive Sphere venue in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had initially planned on hitting a series of “No Repeat Weekends throughout October, but they’ve now extended the residency into 2026. You’ll find the more details here.
