Megadeth’s forthcoming self-titled farewell album will be hitting the silver screen before it arrives on streamers. The iconic thrashers have announced a one-night cinematic event dubbed Megadeth: Behind the Mask is set to take place the eve of the release of their next album.
A press release confirms that Behind the Mask will show up on screens January 22nd in over 1,000 cinemas, across more than 35 countries. The film is being described as a behind-the-scenes look at the 40-year history of Megadeth, which will find Dave Mustaine “sharing untold stories of the band’s past and the creative fire that drives them.”
“This listening event is going to be amazing,” Mustaine noted in a statement. “I can’t wait to share it with thousands of my closest friends around the world. I have so much gratitude for everyone who helped bring this film to life, especially you, the fans! Now let’s fire this up… and pass the popcorn!”
Fans will also be able to hear Megadeth in-full throughout the film, with Mustaine providing track-by-track commentary on its songs — which include the previously delivered “Tipping Point,” “I Don’t Care” and Megadeth’s much-anticipated take on Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning.”
Tickets to the exclusive, one-night-only movie event are up for sale December 11th. You can sign up to receive more ticketing and venue info over on the Megadeth site.
As previously reported, Megadeth is out January 23rd via BLKIIBLK. CD and cassette copies, as well as an exclusive vinyl pressing on “Blue Flame”-colored wax, are available for pre-order in Revolver’s shop.
Megadeth also recently announced a Canadian headline tour that begins in February and features support from Anthrax and Exodus. By next summer, they and Anthrax will be supporting Iron Maiden for a North American arena tour.
