MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN’s Jiu-Jitsu doc: See new clip on how training saves lives

Maynard James Keenan‘s documentary The Great In Between: An Introduction to Jiu Jitsu — an instructional film “tailored for beginners and the Jiu Jitsu-curious” — is finally streaming in full today, and a newly-released clip finds the TOOL, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman and other martial arts enthusiasts explaining how the sport has “saved lives.”

The excerpt, which you can watch up above, first finds Keenan talking to various members of the Verde Valley Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Cottonwood, Arizona, about the more-holistic beneficial effects of training in BJJ, which then leads to a group of people discussing how training helped them work through alcoholism and drug addiction.

“I’m very thankful for Jiu Jitsu for truly saving my life, and giving me a life really worth having and sharing with others,” one academy member shares, ahead of another student of the martial art describing the positive feelings and endorphin rush training gives him. One woman describes Jiu Jitsu as “medicine.”

As previously reported, the doc finds Keenan and other Jiu Jitsu black belts guiding “viewers through the essential development of stabilizing muscles and myelin connections,” with the goal to provide “a foundation for success in this confidence-building, puzzle-solving martial art.”

The Great In Between: An Introduction to Jiu Jitsu is available now via Puscifertv.com. The film is available as a 72-hour rental, and you can bundle the stream with various commemorative merch items.

In other Keenan news, the singer appears alongside his A Perfect Circle bandmate Billy Howerdel on two of the collectible covers of Revolver’s new Winter 2024 Issue, commemorating APC’s 25th anniversary. You can pick up a copy of the magazine at Revolver’s shop.
