Max Cavalera is ready to celebrate his heavy-metal dynasty. This November, the Soulfly leader will be closing out a U.S. tour with a special show that will also feature a bunch of bands connected to his family, and most notably a rare performance from a revived Nailbomb.
The special “Max Cavalera Dynasty Show” takes place November 9th at Tempe, Arizona’s Marquee Theatre, and will be headlined by Cavalera’s longtime groove project Soulfly. When it comes to Nailbomb — the cult industrial-metal side project that released their sole studio album, Point Blank, back in 1994 — the “Dynasty” concert marks the group’s first official appearance since performing at the Netherlands’ Dynamo Open Air festival in 1995. That said, the band is going to look a little different.
In an Instagram post, Cavalera confirmed that the Nailbomb performance won’t feature co-founder and Grammy-nominated producer Alex Newport handling instruments or vocals. Instead, Nailbomb will comprise three guitarists: Max Cavalera, his son Igor Cavalera, and Travis Stone (Pig Destroyer). They should be in lock-step with each other, having just come off the Cavalera “Third World Trilogy” tour in Europe, where they’d been performing classic Sepultura material.
Nailbomb’s live lineup now also includes bassist Johnny Chow (Cavalera Conspiracy, Stone Sour), sample master Alex Cha (Pig Destroyer) and drummer Adam Jarvis (Misery Index, Pig Destroyer).
While this will be the first formal Nailbomb show in almost 30 years, Soulfly did mount a tour in 2017 that found Cavalera and Co. playing the Point Blank songs. Newport likewise did not take part in the tour, but gave Cavalera his blessing to go forward with the performances.
The dynastic one-day fest will find Cavalera performing with not just Soulfly and Nailbomb, but also his Go Ahead and Die project with his son Igor, while the latter will be performing with his own Healing Magic, as well.
Max’s other son, Richie Cavalera, will also be hitting the stage to sing with his longtime project Incite, and Go Ahead and Die bassist Jackie Cruz will retake the stage with Jade Helm. The bill is rounded out by Shadow Guilt, Six Million Dead, Ocean Harvest and Zherra.
Soulfly are currently touring Europe, and will likewise embark on a fall tour by mid-October, which culminates in the Dynasty show in Tempe. You’ll find the full details here.
