Matty Matheson’s cultural dominance is taking a hard-edged turned, as the celebrity chef, author, restauranteur and The Bear actor/producer has just unveiled a new hardcore project he’s fronting called Pig Pen, which also includes Alexisonfire guitarist Wad MacNeil.
News of the band dropped on socials today, with Matheson confirming that the group features MacNeil and indie-country artist Daniel Romano on guitar, Romano’s brother Ian SKI Romano on drums, and Young Guv/Romano collaborator Tommy Major on bass.
An Instagram post adds that the friends started Pig Pen a couple of years ago, and that they also “wrote and recorded 10 songs over 2 days.”
While an official due date for a forthcoming Pig Pen release has yet to be delivered, one of these songs is being previewed through some music video-styled visuals in said post, which you’ll find down below.
“We just wanted to hang out and see what’s up,” Matheson added of forming the group. “This is our band. We are Pig Pen.”
Pig Pen make their onstage debut April 25th at Sneaky Dee’s in Toronto, Ontario, with the night also featuring sets from fellow Hogtown hardcore bands Best Wishes and Pluto’s Kiss. Regrettably, if you were looking to pig-pile yourselves through Pig Pen’s first set, the show is already sold out.
