The freaks got freaky in Palm Beach, Florida, last night (August 20th), where Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson official kicked off their much-anticipated “Freaks on Parade” co-headline tour.
The night began with an opening set from Mongolian folk-metal outfit the HU, and then Manson brought his signature shock-rocking sound to the masses at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre.
The set was Manson’s first since the release of this summer’s One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2 album, and he chose to perform two cuts from this latest album: “Exit Wounds” and “Front Toward Enemy” (the latter making it to the stage for the first time).
Manson also crisscrossed his catalogue throughout the night, drawing it back to the Smells Like Children EP’s “Diary of a Dope Fiend,” delivering early hits like “The Beautiful People” and also hitting modern fare like One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1’s “As Sick as the Secrets Within.” At one point, he reminded the Sunshine State crowd that Florida was the “birthplace for my drug experiences,” and then folded the intro of “I Don’t Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me)” into “The Dope Show.”
Shortly after the Pale Emperor left the stage, Rob Zombie – the Great Satan himself —mounted the final performance of the night.
Zombie’s 15-song set began with the post-apocalyptic pound of his latest album’s “F.T.W. 84,” and also included The Great Satan numbers “Heathen Days” and “Tarantula.” He brought the crowd his “Red, Red Kroovy,” dipped into his Hellbilly past with performances of all-timers “Superbeast” and “Living Dead Girl,” and he also popped off a pair of old White Zombie crushers before capping the night with “Dragula.”
