Linkin Park have something to tell us. While the details have yet to arrive in full, the iconic nu- metal unit have teased a forthcoming announcement by launching a countdown clock on their official website, leading to speculation on what the news may be.
The clock went up on the band’s website over the weekend, and it officially winds down on Wednesday (August 28th). The countdown follows recent activity from the band, who issued their career-observing Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023) earlier in the spring.
Speculation on whether Linkin Park are due to make their live return, following the 2017 passing of vocalist Chester Bennington, ramped up just ahead of that release, when Orgy singer Jay Gordon suggested in an interview that the band were rehearsing with “a girl singer.” Gordon quickly retracted that statement. Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee was asked shortly thereafter in a separate interview whether the rumored singer could be her, a suggestion she was flattered by, but denied.
Billboard, however, reported in late April that Linkin Park members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell were reportedly in talks alongside booking agency WME about reuniting for festival dates, with an unnamed source adding that the group were “hoping to find a female vocalist.”
Shinoda didn’t formally address reunion rumours in his recent interview with Revolver, which took place ahead of the Billboard report, but he did say that any upcoming news would arrive through official channels.
“When there’s something to tell you, we will tell you,” he said, adding of the possibility of performing with Linkin Park again, “When there’s an announcement to be made, it will be on LinkinPark.com. If you’re hearing it from somebody else, you can trust that information as much as you want to trust it. [But] I love the guys, I still see them pretty regularly, and we have fun making stuff together.”
