Pack your things, but maybe keep the gun out of the duffel bag — Atlanta, Georgia, deathcore destructionists Left to Suffer have announced their next album and they’re inviting you into a new era of heaviness. The group’s fourth full-length is called Unwelcome Guest, and they’ve unleashed the title track ahead of the record’s fall release.
It turns out “Unwelcome Guest” is Left to Suffer’s second preview from the album, following last month’s bombastic “Gun in the Duffel Bag” single. This time around, vocalist Taylor Barber torches the mic with elemental terror, an all-knowing force of nature seeking out its prey by any means necessary (“I need to know, are you scared yet?”). His phlegm-heavy wretching and Old Testament-styled justice-seeking is accompanied by world-crevassing beats, compound-djented riff work and forest-leveling siren sounds.
“Unwelcome Guest is about the patience that comes before revenge,” guitarist Peter Higgs describes of the theme in a statement. “It’s for the people who thought your silence meant they got away with it, while it was just timing. An eye for an eye.”
The band’s Unwelcome Guest follows 2024 full-length Leap of Death. The album is described as continuing Left to Suffer’s “evolution of pure intensity.” There appears to be at least one welecomed guest on the act’s fourth album — DISTANT’s Alan Grnja appear on the record’s “WRONG NUMBER”.
Unwelcome Guest sees release October 8th via Hopeless Records, though a vinyl pre-order on “Red & Yellow Swirl with Black Splatter” (limited to 200 copies) is already up for sale in Revolver’s shop.
