Get your headphones ready: PRESIDENT are letting the faithful sample even more of their upcoming debut album, Blood of Your Empire. The masked alt-metal outfit have premiered a new cut called “dark heaven” via a first reaction-style music video.
The clip, which follows May’s “DOOM LOOP” single, begins with a note that a select group of individuals were chosen to attend “an exclusive briefing in Los Angeles,” and when the panel of folks arrived to a seemingly abandoned manor, they were given a set of headphones. From there, they each began to crank “dark heaven.”
The track further develops PRESIDENT’s melodic approach to modern metal, flooding the air with gut-punch guitar judding, synth ambiance and screeched production effects. There are dark-crooned musings from the Chief of Command (“Dying inside / I wish I could drift away / I’m so tired of hurting”). The song also seems to point towards themes of meritless worship, faith and more.
“‘dark heaven’ is a reflection on the contradictions of faith, and how something intended to unite humanity has so often been used to justify division, violence, and power. It’s about the way greed can wear the mask of righteousness,” the act share in a joint statement.
“It isn’t an attack on belief itself; it’s about searching for something real beneath the noise, and asking what remains when certainty begins to crumble.”
