Last night (September 23rd), Korn took their 30th anniversary tour with Gojira and Spiritbox to Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center, playing for a sold-out crowd of over 12,000 fans.
Spiritbox cranked through six songs, opening with “Cellar Door” and tearing through their recent single “Soft Spine” before closing out their opening performance with fan favorites “Circle With Me” and “Holy Roller.” Gojira’s set featured twice as many songs including an excerpt of their rendition of French Revolution-era traditional “Mea culpa (Ah! Ça ira!),” an epic cover they debuted during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
As for the headliners, the nu-metal godfathers received a hero’s welcome, delivering a career-spanning, 18-song setlist spiked with a four-pack of classics off Korn’s 1994 self-titled debut: namely, “Blind,” “Ball Tongue,” “Clown” and “Shoots and Ladders,” the last of which culminated in the breakdown to Metallica’s “One.”
In addition to hits like “Freak on a Leash” and “Here to Stay,” the Bakersfield quintet also threw in some choice rarities, including Issues funk-creeper “Hey Daddy” (which they hadn’t played since 1999 before this tour) and Korn III opener “Oildale (Leave Me Alone)” (which hadn’t been performed since 2012 prior to this tour).
