Hear CANDY’s subversive sports anthem “Football”

Are you ready for some “Football?” Well, Candy sure hope you are, having just unleashed a grinding new tune named after America’s favorite sport, though it doubles as a satirical salute to the good old Gridiron.

“Football” is the lead single from the hardcore experimenters’ just-announced Flipping EP for Triple B Records. Unlike the melodic, if industrialized blue mood coursing through parts of the band’s recent It’s Inside You album, “Football” is pure-blasted fury that comes at you hard like a first-string linebacker on a Gatorade-and-Red-Bull-bender.

That said, as you can see through the politics-and-sports-contemplating music video up above, which was directed by Michael Quick, Candy are absolutely trying to connect the dots between a Buffalo Bills blitz, blind patriotism, mass indoctrination, and the bombs-dropping military industrial complex. Semi-subliminal messages and even a still or two of Lee Harvey Oswald abound.

Flipping will be Candy’s second release of 2024, following It’s Inside You. The six-song EP is described as an “exploration of hedonism and self-destruction,” and it was captured by Converge guitarist/producer Kurt Ballou at his GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts.

You’ll find Flipping‘s Caligulan yacht party artwork, as well as the tracklisting, down below. Triple B are taking pre-orders here. Flipping is out on streamers October 16, with physicals set to arrive in November.
