Kittie guitarist-vocalist Morgan Lander has side-stepped away from her Canadian metal force’s “Legacy of Fire” to debut synth-chilled tones with a project called Winterlvst. An album arrives in a couple of weeks, but they’re teasing it in advance through debut single “Broken Lines.”
The full details have yet to be unveiled behind Winterlvst’s origins, but Lander formally confirmed in an Instagram post today (March 20th) that the project has spent “ten years in the shadows,” and will deliver debut album Awakening on April 3rd.
“Broken Lines,” the act’s “first ritual,” unfolds with glacial darkness, ominously melancholy synth waves and the occasional requiem bell beating beneath the Lander’s distant musings on a figure who is “never coming home.”

Winterlvst began teasing the impending Awakening late last month on Instagram. While details on the lineup have yet to be explained in full, the songwriting credits on YouTube list point to Lander collaborating with Quebecois keyboardist Jonathan Lefrancois-Leduc (Blackguard), drummer Justine Ethier (Blackguard, Karkaos) and vocalist/author Martine Bourque. Most of those folks are tagged in Winterlvst’s IG posts, too.
A photo of Lander, Lefrancois-Leduc and Ethier from 2016 seems to confirm they’ve all been playing the long game ahead of today’s announcement, Ethier having captioned the pic at the time with the hashtag #willitbemetal. Only time will tell!
