Get ready to eat up the new Jutes single. For that matter — per the disturbingly voracious lyrics to the rising alt-metal artist’s dreamily distorted “Parasite” — why not just take a bite right out of him, while you’re at it.
The newly released song arrives in the lead-up to his forthcoming album, Dilworth, which had previously been teased with the sultry, nu-gazing singles “Left on Dilworth” and “Crucifixxx.” Last week, the Los Angeles, California-based artist confirmed on socials that “Parasite” has been around for a bit, noting: “last tour I played this song unreleased and mfs were moshing.” Sonically, it’s a hypnotically dark-grooved swoon you could liken to Deftones at their most erotically charged.
Jutes also previewed the track across socials with trenchcoated visuals in which he referred to himself as “the Keanu of nu-metal.” Notably, he also confessed on IG that the “Parasite” clip is “the first actual music video I’ve made in years.” Now, you can officially enter Jutes’ Matrix by mainlining the single’s black rainbow melodicism and carnivorous lyrical plea (“Come fuck me up/Don’t be shy/Eat me alive/Parasite”).
“I think conceptually, it changed the world, and The Matrix became a huge part of our daily lives,” Jutes tells Revolver of the 1999 sci-fi classic. “Even people that haven’t seen it are aware of what ‘living in the matrix’ means. Aesthetically, it’s one of my favorite films, and the vibe matches how I feel when I listen to this song. I really wanted this music video to emulate that feeling. Not to mention Keanu being a Canadian legend, which is super inspiring as a kid who grew up in Canada.”
As for the cannibalistic lyrical foreplay, he adds: “I’ve made multiple heavy, gnarly sex jams in my day, but this one felt particularly heavy and especially gnarly. It felt unhinged, strung out, sweaty and unwell — but in a sexy way. I wanted to write something that played on the duality of being turned on but also being eaten alive right down to your core… by someone or something that most likely doesn’t have your well-being at heart.”
