Perhaps this was to be expected, but Iron Maiden have announced that they will not be in attendance during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles, California, this November. While the metal vets have been critical of the Rock Hall in the past, their absence isn’t a dramatic form of protest — It’s just that they’ll be out on tour.
Band manager Rod Smallwood confirmed as much in a new interview with Billboard, where he lays it out plainly that the band will be upping the Irons during a Down Under tour of in November — they’re playing Melbourne, Australia on November 13th, and then Sydney on the 15th, meaning there’s just no way they’ll be able to pop over to L.A.’s Peacock theater on the 14th.
“As the most observant have already noticed, the band will be on tour in Australia around the November date of the induction ceremony for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Los Angeles,” Smallwood said.
“In accepting, Iron Maiden made it very clear to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that the fans always come first and that the shows will, of course, go on. We would like to assure all our fans in Australasia that the Australian and New Zealand dates will remain unaffected and we look forward to bringing the ‘Run For Your Lives’ tour to them on the penultimate stop of our 50th-anniversary celebrations.”
Nevertheless, the beloved NWOBHM institution will be honored at the ceremony, along with fellow inductees including Joy Division/New Order, Sade, Wu-Tang Clan, Billy Idol, Oasis and more.
The list of Maiden vets set to be toasted includes current members Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris, Nicko McBrain, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray and Janick Gers, as well as former members Dennis Stratton, Paul Di’Anno, Blaze Bayley and Clive Burr.
