A new, eight-part docu-series from the makers of the wrestling-themed Dark Side of the Ring is set to explore the “untold” history of heavy metal in 2025. While the details on what all will be covered are under wraps, producers are currently developing the series for Hulu under the Black Sabbath-saluting working title of Into the Void.
Plans for the series were announced this week by Deadline, which confirmed that Vice Studios Canada is currently working on a series that covers “the emotional sagas behind the most towering legends and unforgettable artists in heavy metal.” The show will arrive through Hulu in the U.S.
Into the Void is being helmed by executive producers Evan Husney and Jason Eisener, who co-created the popular wrestling documentary series Dark Side of the Ring, which debuted in 2019 and has become Vice TV’s most-watched series of all time. They’ve also produced the similarly-themed Tales from the Territories.
“We both grew up as diehard fans of metal and have always been fascinated by the boundaries between fantasy and reality,” Husney wrote in an Instagram post. “The sonic worlds created by the genre’s boldest icons are rich with untold history and unimaginable trials and tribulations, and we’re excited to team up with Hulu to look beyond the mystique and show these legends as real people.”
While it’s as-yet-unclear which metal legends will be explored through Into the Void, Husney noted that the full list of subjects will arrive later in 2025.
