With Zheani just about to mount her upcoming “The Maenad Tour” for North American audiences, the Australian “fairy trap” provocateur has dropped a brand-new cut for the faithful. Built for repeat listens, the new dancefloor-hammering single is called “Sex Never Dies.”
The track was produced by longtime collaborator King Yosef, and it kabooms a lean hi-hat-and-kick beat against lithe synthwork, doom-fuzzed bass lines and Zheani’s breathy, reality-modded lines around being a “fuckin’ heathen.” A press release likewise notes that the song speaks to themes of “cyclical existence, trauma and resilience.”
“Time is a flat circle,” Zheani said in a statement, in relation to “Sex Never Dies.” “Everything we have done or will do we will do over and over and over again — forever.”
The track has also been fit with a NSFW-ish 360 visualizer where Zheani is crawling around a dark room to sing the song, with a series of layered doppelgangers covering the screen by song’s end. A disclaimer notes that the vid is “best experienced in a dark place.”
