With Whitechapel now just a week out from hitting the road as part of Lorna Shore’s upcoming fall tour, the veteran deathcore outfit have unveiled a brand-new beatdown they may be sprinkling into those sets. If you’re wondering what the vibe of their standalone single may be ahead of time, be warned that the cut’s called “A Visceral Retch.”
The track is being presented in a new music video, which mixes animated, shadow-puppet-styled visuals of ominously horned figures alongside a full-band performance in a craggy underground cave.
As you can see and hear up above, the speed-driven piece is full of detuned death riffs and mega-fast drum snaring. Vocalist Phil Bozeman indeed does some gut-rumbled retching throughout the tune, no doubt brought on by some truly nauseating in-song coprophagia. Its further is explained that the song is about “gluttonous overlords who test the lengths to which humans will go to survive and join their cult.” Sonically, the band feels fans of the “dark and horror-like vibes” of Whitechapel’s The Somatic Defilement era will be stoked.
“This song came to light thanks mostly to [guitarist] Zach Householder. He showed us and we all immediately said, ‘yup, that’s it,’” Bozeman said in a statement.
He added: “The song is disturbing. Imagine being put in a situation of survival by gluttonous, mammoth demons that give you a choice. Eat the demons’ waste, eat each other, or starve to death. The twist, you’re against the people you love the most. It’s a way to find the ones that are truly evil people to build and strengthen their cult. It also represents how horrible people can really be, when push comes to shove.”
As previously reported, Lorna Shore’s tour will find the band supported not only by Whitechapel, but also by Kublai Khan TX and Sanguisugabogg. The trek launches September 19th at Montreal’s MTELUS venue. You’ll find the full schedule here.
