Four years on from Volbeat’s last album, Servant of the Mind, the Danish “Elvis metal” lifers have announced their next chapter. It includes a new full-length, Gods of Angels Trust, due in June, and its beastly lead single, “By a Monster’s Hand,” out now.
Volbeat ramped up the promo trail for their ninth LP last week, with socials posts promising that a new song, album and tour would all be announced today (March 6th).
As promised, the group did all three. Starting with the song, “By a Monster’s Hand” leads the band into this latest era with stomping, stadium-sized metal rhythms and highly Volbeat-ish, detuned, ultra-chunkified hooks. A statement from the band adds that the latest track is “the perfect introduction to an album full of power and electrifying rock anthems.”
You can check it out for yourself in the new music video, which mixes performance footage of Volbeat with a narrative where a bespectacled drifter wanders around his neighborhood pulling an ominous cart of goods.
“In the past, I’ve taken a long time to write and obsessed over so many elements of the songs before finishing them,” Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen commented. “This time, I wanted to make a Volbeat record without thinking too much about it. Instead of following any kind of structure I said, ‘OK, there are no rules. I can do anything I want. I can start with a chorus or do songs that are just a bunch of verses stacked on top of each other. Anything goes.’ That was freeing for me and made it exciting to write this album.”
While Volbeat had been promoting “By a Monster’s Hand” with some Goat-ed teasers, an exclusive variant of Gods of Angels Trust on oxblood-colored vinyl, limited to 1,000, is available in Revolver’s shop. The album, which is the band’s first since the 2023 departure of longtime guitarist Rob Caggiano, hits stores and streamers June 6th.
Additionally, Volbeat have announced a very, very busy run of dates. The group’s not-so-humbly-titled “Greatest of All Tours Worldwide” is set to kick off June 7th in Vancouver, BC, and doesn’t wrap until November 13th in London, UK. Check out the full itinerary below.
