Warning: Undeath’s new “Disputatious Malignancy” single may give you brain worms. Truth is, though, it’s worth it.
The Rochester, New York, quintet have hit out with a ruthless second single from their forthcoming More Insane album, and it’s an old-school death-metal mangler. The song received its premiere yesterday (September 4th) on SiriusXM’s Chaos Hour, and has now been delivered through a grotesque claymation-style music video that conjures the essence of a red-band trailer coming out of the Aardman Animation studio.
As you’ll see up above, it finds a disembodied head getting invaded by parasitic, “wriggling things” that start writhing deep into his “mental domain.” Without spoiling too much, it gets splattery, with the cartoonish gore-fest absolutely complementing a psychotic assault of tandem-squeal soloing, panicked thrash beats, and desecrated death growls.
“This was actually one of the last songs written for the album,” Undeath vocalist Alexander Jones commented. “Kyle [Beam, guitarist] had an extremely rough demo of it on his phone that I overheard him listening to when we were at Mark [Lewis]’s studio doing pre-production, and just from hearing that I knew it had to be on the record no matter what. Thematically it’s got kind of a Pierced from Within-era Suffocation meets Bloodborne lore vibe and it’s definitely the closest thing we have lyrically to a ‘fuck god/religion’ song, which is kind of new territory for us.
He added of the track, “It’s fast as shit, bouncy and has a killer duelling squeal-y solo part that I absolutely love.”
Undeath’s latest single was preceded by “Brandishing the Blade.” The band’s More Insane is out October 4th through Prosthetic Records, and it’ll be supported on a North American headline tour that finds Undeath traveling alongside Kruelty, Gates to Hell, Tribal Gaze and Torture.
