Australian post-hardcore mainstays the Amity Affliction are ready to topple over the heavy community, having just unveiled the personal title cut off their newly announced next album, HOUSE OF CARDS.
The song arrived on streamers today (February 5th), and has likewise been packaged in a black-and-white performance-style music video, which you can see above.
A press release notes that HOUSE OF CARDS marks Amity Affliction’s first album release with bassist and clean vocalist Jonny Reeves, who began touring with the band in 2024 and became a permanent addition to the lineup in 2025.
Throughout the title cut, Reeves maintains a sung-and-screamed trade-off dynamic with longtime vocalist Joel Birch, whose lyrics were written for his brother and sister and are said to be “taking stock of the relationship shared with their mother.” The tune seemingly outlines internal strife (“The tears and voices in my head; they paint a picture of a disaster inside me”) and heavy feelings (“Hate is easy/You’ve gotta try and love yourself”).
“Our mother died in 2024 and none of us had a healthy relationship with her,” Birch explained in a statement. “She was very self-involved, aggressive, abusive in our early years, and in her later years, spent a good amount of time trying to put a wedge between the three of us.
“Thankfully, once she passed, the three of us actually became closer as we realized we had individual, but shared trauma related to her.”
While the Amity Affliction delivered a full-length re-recording of 2014’s Let Me Take the Ocean in 2024, HOUSE OF CARDS will be the band’s first original studio LP since 2023’s Not Without My Ghosts — it is likewise the group’s first album since the 2025 departure of bassist-vocalist Ahren Stringer.
The album sees release April 24th Pure Noise. An exclusive “yellow with red splatter” vinyl variant, limited to 250 copies and packaged with a signed insert, is available to pre-order in Revolver’s shop.
As previously reported, the band will be touring the U.S. this spring with August Burns Red. The trip begins April 10th at the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. You’ll find the rest of the routing details here.
